About Lab-Created Sapphires
A lab created sapphire begins with a naturally-mined slice of crystal, also called a seed. This seed is placed inside a crucible chamber filled with a liquid containing the ingredients to make the seed grow from a slice to a crystal. The liquid is heated to 1100° Celsius and the chamber is sealed. Most lab created gem varieties take from six months to a year to grow into its natural crystalline shape. The result is a rough crystal that is identical – physically, chemically, and optically, to those found within the earth.
